Wolfgang Koch studied in Munich and was subsequently an ensemble member at the Stadttheater Bern, the Staatstheater Stuttgart and the Vienna Volksoper. He has made guest appearances at opera houses in Hamburg, Berlin, Frankfurt, Zurich, Vienna, Milan, Paris, Tokyo and New York, among others, as well as at the festivals in Bregenz, Salzburg and Bayreuth. His repertoire includes roles such as Scarpia in “Tosca”, Barak in “Die Frau ohne Schatten”, Wotan in “Der Ring des Nibelungen”, Mandryka in “Arabella”, Don Pizarro in “Fidelio”, Jochanaan in “Salome” and the title roles in Aribert Reimann’s “Lear” and Paul Hindemith’s “Mathis der Maler”. In 2014, he was appointed Bavarian Chamber Singer. Parts at the Bavarian State Opera in the 2021/22 season were Förster in “Das schlaue Füchslein”, Grandier in “Die Teufel von Loudun”, Kurwenal in “Tristan und Isolde” and Michele in “Il Tabarro”.
