Antonio Latella

The Italian actor and theatre director Antonio Latella was born in Naples in 1967. He trained at Teatro Stabile in Turin and Bottega Teatrale in Florence. After his training, he acted in productions by directors like Pippo Di Marca, Luca Ronconi, Massimo Castri and Tito Piscitelli. His 1997 production of “Agata” was his debut as a director. It was followed by numerous international productions for theatres and institutions including Nuovo Teatro Naples, Paradise Festival Novosibirsk, Salzburger Festspiele, Schauspiel Köln, Schauspielhaus Wien, Theater Basel and Berliner Festspiele. In 2004, Latella directed his first opera: Gluck’s “Orfeo ed Euridice” at Teatro Piccinni in Bari. In 2010/2011, he was artistic director of Nuovo Teatro Nuovo in Naples and in 2011, he set up his production company stabilemobile compagnia Antonio Latella. Since 2017, he has been Director of the Theatre Department of the Biennale di Venezia. “Eine göttliche Komödie. Dante < > Pasolini” is his first work at Munich’s Residenztheater and his first to be invited to the Berlin Theatertreffen.
