Thorsten Lensing has been working as an independent director since the mid-1990s. Since then, he has produced and staged 15 theatre shows as independent productions with co-producers including Schauspielhaus Zürich, Schauspiel Stuttgart, Schauspiel Frankfurt, Berliner Festspiele, Grand Théâtre de la Ville de Luxembourg, Sophiensæle in Berlin, Theater im Pumpenhaus in Münster, Ruhrfestspiele Recklinghausen, Kampnagel in Hamburg, deSingel in Antwerp and Berlins Volksbühne. Lensing’s productions always have a first-rate cast. He has worked with actors like Ursina Lardi, Devid Striesow, André Jung, Josef Ostendorf, Viviane de Muynck, Ernst Stötzner, Lars Rudolph, Peter Kern, Sebastian Blomberg, Maria Hofstätter, Miriam Goldschmidt, Jasna Fritzi Bauer, Charly Hübner and Peter Kurth as well as with musicians Jean-Paul Bourelly, Phil Minton and Willi Kellers, arts journalist Dirk Pilz, and set designer Johannes Schütz.
After his successful adaptions of Fyodor M. Dostoevsky’s “The Brothers Karamazov” (Friedrich-Luft-Prize for the best production in Berlin or Potsdam in the year 2014) and David Foster Wallace “Infinite Jest” (invited to the 2019 Berlin Theatertreffen) for the stage, “Verrückt nach Trost” is Thorsten Lensing’s first own play written for the theatre – or rather written for the actors Sebastian Blomberg, André Jung, Ursina Lardi and Devid Striesow, with some of whom he has been working for 20 years.
