Sophie Rois

Sophie Rois was born in Linz and studied acting at the Max-Reinhardt-Seminar in Vienna. Her first engagements took her to Renaissance-Theater and Schillertheater, both in Berlin. She has been a member of the acting company of Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz since 1993. Sophie Rois has been working with director Frank Castorf for many years. At the Volksbühne, she worked with Christoph Marthaler, Luc Bondy, René Pollesch, Herbert Fritsch and several times with Christoph Schlingensief. With director and screenwriter Clemens Schönborn, she cooperated on productions of “Medea” based on Euripides at Centraltheater Leipzig (2010) and “Die Kameliendame (The Lady of the Camellias)” at Volksbühne at Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz (2011), among others.

Sophie Rois played parts in numerous films for cinema and television. For the lead part in the cinema film “Drei (Three)”, directed by Tom Tykwer, she received several awards, among them the German Film Award for the best performance in a lead part. Sophie Rois received several other awards for her acting in theatre, film, television and radio. Among them were the Grimme Award for her role of Erika Mann in the television mini-series “Die Manns – Ein Jahrhundertroman” and the German Audiobook Award in the category “Best Interpretation” for the audiobook “Jane Eyre” by Charlotte Brontë. In 2012, she was acknowledged with the prestigious Berlin Theatre Award of the Stiftung Preußische Seehandlung.
