Ixchel Mendoza Hernández, born in Mexico in 1983, is a freelance choreographer, performer and dancer. Following her dance training at the Centro Nacional de las Artes in Mexico City, she studied choreography and dance at the Hoge School voor de Kunsten, ArtEZ in Arnhem, the Netherlands. After graduating in 2007, she received the DanceWebEurope scholarship as part of the Vienna ImPulsTanz Festival. From 2013 to 2015 she took the master's programme SoDA at the HZT, Hochschulübergreifendes Zentrum Tanz, Berlin. In 2017, Hernández was awarded the Life Long Burning scholarship, in cooperation with Uferstudios and CCN Choreographic Center Montpellier. In the same year, she received individual project funding from the Berlin Senate for her piece "The twofold Paradox". Her work "The Reversed Alchemist: Figur 1-3", funded by the Hauptstadtkulturfonds, was premiered at the Open Spaces - Festival in July 2019. In October 2020, she was selected for the Tanzpraxis Berlin scholarship, a pilot project that will allow her to research her practice for a year and a half. In 2021, she was awarded the Take Care Research Fellowship from the Fonds Darstellende Künste for her research on The Multiplicity of the Other. As a dancer and performer, she works with Kat Válastur, company s-h-i-f-t-s, Clement Layes, Laurie Young, Anna Anderegg, Stephan Panhans, Elpida Orfanidou and Susanne Kennedy, among others. She currently lives in Berlin.
