Feridun Zaimoglu

Feridun Zaimoglu was born in Bolu, Turkey in 1964. Studied Art and Medicine at Kiel University. His first novel “Kanak Sprak” was published in 1995, followed by “Koppstoff”, “Zwölf Gramm Glück” (Twelve Grams of Happiness) and most recently “Leyla” (2006). His novel “Abschaum” (Scum) was filmed under the title “Kanak Attack” by Lars Becker (2000). Numerous screenplays together with Günter Senkel, e.g. “Brandmal”. Their version of “Othello” reopened the main theatre of the Münchner Kammerspiele in 2003 and in the same year their first play “Casino Leger” was premiered at Schauspiel Frankfurt. A dramatization of his novel “Leyla” is planned for 2007 by the Hans-Otto-Theater in Potsdam. Numerous awards, including the Friedrich Hebbel Prize, the Jury Prize in the Ingeborg Bachmann competition for the short story “Häute” (Skins) and the Art Prize of the Land Schleswig-Holstein.
