Daniel Ott
Following his piano studies, Daniel Ott – who was born in 1960 in Appenzell, Switzerland – did street theatre with horses and a wagon stage before studying composition in Essen and Freiburg/Breisgau. He develops experimental music theatre works and creates landscape compositions that integrate the sounds of the surrounding environment. He created works such as these for Rheinhafen Basel in 2006 among other venues, as well as “Querströmung” in 2011 at the Ruhr near Witten. He composed “klangkörperklang”, a work for the Swiss pavilion at Expo 2000 in Hanover. In 1990 Daniel Ott founded the neue musik rümlingen festival (Switzerland) and was appointed professor for composition and experimental music theatre at Berlin’s University of the Arts in 2005. From 2016 onwards, he will direct the Munich Biennale together with Manos Tsangaris.
