Yevheniia Vidishcheva is a Ukrainian theatre director and producer specialising in documentary theatre and multidisciplinary projects. For over a decade, her work has focused on exploring war trauma, resilience, and collective memory. In 2013, during the Revolution of Dignity, she was a first-year theatre student. That pivotal moment led her to reflect on her role in shaping Ukraine’s future and how art could serve as a tool for change. In 2017, she founded a non-profit organisation supporting young artists in non-central and war-affected regions. The organisation created spaces for artistic reflection – documentary performances, films, and installations – giving young people a platform to express their thoughts and experiences. In 2020, she opened an arts centre in a village in Kherson, which became a residency for young creatives. However, after the full-scale invasion in 2022, the village was occupied, and the community was forced to relocate. Since then, Yevheniia has developed new projects, including “Safe Space”, a documentary performance reflecting on the first year of the war; “Kontur”, a musical tour of frontline cities; and “Misto Marii: The Siege Diaries”, based on the real stories of two sisters who survived the siege of Mariupol, a Ukrainian city occupied by the Russians since 2022. Through her work, she aims to use documentary storytelling as a means to engage with reality, creating spaces for reflection and transformation.
