After training at the Max Reinhard Schule in Berlin Burghart Klaußner performed at a number of Germany’s most prestigious theatres including the Schaubühne am Halleschen Ufer, the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg, the Schiller Theater and the Maxim Gorki Theater in Berlin as well as stages in Frankfurt am Main, Bochum and Zurich. Following his screen debut in 1982 he has appeared in numerous award-winning films, becoming known to a wider audience through his parts in “Good bye, Lenin!”, “Die fetten Jahre sind vorbei” (German Film Prize for Best Supporting Actor), “Requiem”, “Yella” and “The Reader”. His most recent film appearance is in “The White Ribbon” by Michael Haneke (Golden Palm, Cannes 2009). Burghart Klaußner has also been directing theatre since 2006 at the Hamburger Kammerspiele, the Schauspielhaus Bochum and elsewhere. He can currently be seen in Berlin at the Schaubühne playing Thoas in “Iphigenia on Tauris” directed by Jossi Wieler.
