Marco Blaauw

Marco Blaauw, born in 1965 in the Netherlands, studied trumpet in Amsterdam and later continued his studies with Pierre Thibaud and Markus Stockhausen. His main goal is to research and develop the trumpet and its repertoire. His commitment is reflected in various solo projects and has led to collaborations with numerous contemporary composers. He has been a member of the Ensemble Musikfabrik since 1993. In addition to his concert activities, Blaauw is active as a composer, teacher, producer and researcher. In 2015, he founded the trumpet ensemble The Monochrome Project. The ensemble focuses exclusively on the sound of the trumpet and works with doubling, dense sound fields, subtle colour changes, gradual and extreme dynamic curves, movement, changing distances and perspectives. Since 2016, Marco Blaauw has been exploring what a trumpet sound means in different cultural contexts around the world as part of his Global Breath research project. Numerous new works have emerged from this research, including works by Richard Ayres, Raven Chacon, Milica Djordjević, Dai Fujikura, Peter Eötvös, George Lewis and Liza Lim, Isabel Mundry, Martijn Padding, Gijsbrecht Roye and many more.
