Benjamin Zock (born 1991 in Berlin) works as a director and dramaturg at the Uckermärkische Bühnen Schwedt. He studied Theatre Studies and Philosophy (M.A.) at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München and Freie Universität Berlin. During his studies, he was invited for internships at the Berliner Ensemble and Volksbühne, where he had a chance to work and learn under the eye of directors Bob Wilson and Frank Castorf. Subsequently, he began his directing career and created his first serious theatrical projects in the independent theatre scene in Berlin, Brandenburg, and Saxony-Anhalt. In his work he focuses on engaging theatrical legacy of GDR (East Germany) in modern staging of pieces from that period. He collaborated with costume and set designer Johannes Weilandt, with whom he directed the world premieres of „Die Aufgabe" and „Die Fahne von Kriwoj Rog" by B. K. Tragelehn. The project were performed in public spaces and open for all audiences. In 2021 he was a fellow at the Akademie der Künste and did a research on the early works of Anna Seghers. He also had an opportunity to direct the world premiere of „Die Marmeladenesser" by Hans Henny. Jahnn in Theater am Rand. Zock is a director with a particular interest for original texts and archival materials. He examins them through the lens of identity, social class and types of power from a post-east-perspective.
