Sujood Kabha is a theatre director based in Jaffa. A graduate of the Theatre Arts department at Tel Aviv University, her work subtly weaves themes of identity and cultural heritage into the fabric of her productions. Kabha envisions theatre as a nuanced platform for social discourse, employing various forms of language – textual, physical, and visual – to delve into the complexities of human experience.
In her work, Kabha also explores the intricate relationship between space and the human body. She delves into how physical environments can shape emotional and spiritual experiences, much like the way certain bodily positions and movements can influence mental and physical wellbeing. This exploration allows her to create performances that not only engage the audience intellectually but also invite them to connect with the space and their own bodies on a profound level. Kabha views theatre as a laboratory where continuous experimentation is possible, pushing the boundaries of artistic expression. Her work often challenges conventional theatrical norms that blur the lines between performer and spectator.
She is currently co-writing a play with the artist and director Riki Assor, addressing the themes of war and children. Together, they have created an open space for mutual art-making, fostering collaboration and dialogue through their creative process.
