On the occasion of Tanz im August
Provocateur and poet of the anti-ballet, William Forsythe is a master of deconstruction. The Second Detail is quintessential Forsythe: oblique, hard-edged, playful and physical. David Dawson’s The Grey Area follows 20th Century lineal architecture and deconstructionism; human fragility and the body’s unlimited possibilities for movement take center stage. Its focus is dance with floating, classically aligned movements in a fluently striking geometry. In No Thumb Pascal Touzeau attempts to comprehend the vocabulary of human conversation in all its diversity and depth. With expressive flexibility, Johan Inger’s Empty House confronts us with lonely individuals who bend, wind, chase and look for ways to break out of their isolation.
