Portraits of Abdul Kader Chahin and Shahak Shapira

The two comedians Shahak Shapira and Abdul Kader Chahin – one with Israeli and Arab, the other with Palestinian roots – together on one stage? For many, theirs is a joyous combination that offers hope for discourse on the conflict in the Middle East, for others, since they appeared in “Die Anstalt” in December 2023, one of the greatest wastes of taxpayers’ money in recent times. They will revive their performance as part of “Reflexes & Reflections” and present a new section they have made together.

Before and after the event, the “Reflexes & Reflections Library” in the Upper Foyer invites visitors of this event to read in-depth and visit the photo exhibition “Overlaps” by Ali Ghandtschi.

Abdul Kader Chahin – Comedian
Shahak Shapira – Writer and Comedian

Abdul Kader Chahin was born in Siegburg as the child of Palestinian refugees and spent seven years with his family living in a hostel for asylum seekers in Duisburg. Now he brings stories from the plattenbaus on stage as a comedian and poetry slammer as well as commenting on contemporary politics. He has been active for many years in campagining against anti-Semitism and for remembrance of the shoah and nakba.

Shahak Shapira grew up in Israel and emigrated to Germany with his family. He is a stand-up comedian, satirist, author and artist. His artistic and political actions and works critically examine topics including Germany’s culture of remembrance, his own experiences of anti-Semitic violence and the “selective humanism” of a one-sided empathy with victims.
