For this first season of spielzeiteuropa, the Israeli actress Smadar Yaaron, one of the founders and managers of Acco Theater Centre, has devised a new solo piece in which she deals in refreshingly blasphemous style with the world she lives in. A woman is bound for life to the Star of David – the symbol for Jewish national identity, but also a symbol for the hope of territorial safety – until death does them part. On the way to celebrate Independence Day in Jerusalem, she is haunted by horrifying images as they are described in the ancient biblical laments: desolation, hunger, exile, conquest and incarceration, guilt and punishment.
“I am an artist. I love to dance. I will dance with the star for you tonight.”
