Encounters, discovery, discussion and participation are at the centre of the performative exploration of Cultural Workers Studio in Kreuzberg.
“Living Canvas” proposes a site visit to Cultural Workers Studio, a co-working space, artistic production team and community network housed in Flutgraben e.V., Kreuzberg since May 2022. During the visit, visitors will be invited to meet members of Cultural Workers Studio, discuss with them the way relationships have been formed and how horizontality and group-formation worked within the studio. Interspersed with this discussion, the four members will tell short performative stories in which they try to find an answer to the question: Is it possible to change someone? They will then begin the process of painting each other – in which the audience is invited to participate.
The studio develops Ukrainian-led projects by members who have fled the atrocities of the 2022 invasion of Ukraine. The members co-operate and share skills and knowledge, operating to intervene in Berlin’s cultural landscape, and to educate through cultural expression about Ukrainian struggles against aggression and oppression. The studio is supported by Flutgraben e. V, who supply technical equipment, access to spaces and community support via artistic networks pre-existing in the building. As well as this, Cultural Workers Studio works with trusted partners to realise the self-determination of its members and wider community through culture.
Please note: The site visit is open-access, please come at any time, a guide will be on-site.
