International co-operation and theatre practice are at the centre of this event which presents new plays and playwrights from South Eastern European regions through conversations, networking events and scenic readings.

This event is part of the Network Treffen.

This event presents texts by a new generation of playwrights from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Greece, Romania, the Republic of Moldova and Serbia. These texts reflect the social upheavals in South Eastern Europe and were written in the context of local workshops led by renowned mentors like Dea Loher, Maria Milisavljević and others. Eleven of them were selected to be showcased at the festival “New Stages South East” at Theater Oberhausen. In the South East European countries, these texts will have access to festivals and theatres, and three of them will be produced as world premieres or German-language premieres at Theater Oberhausen, Schauspiel Essen and Nationaltheater Mannheim.

Theatertreffen, Goethe-Institut and Theater Oberhausen invite visitors to networking events, to a conversation about how plays are created and find their path to international stages, and scenic readings of text excerpts.

“New Stages South East” is a co-operation project of Goethe-Institut and Theater Oberhausen.
